How early should I book an appointment in advance?                                                                                                             The earlier you book an appointment, the more likely you are to secure the time slot you desire.  However we do not require prebooking.  We will always do our best to schedule you with your therapist of choice at a time that is most convenient for you, and we will accept walk-in appointments when our therapists are out of session.

Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet or towel.

Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders.

What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

Is there a price difference for couples massages?                                                                                                                    Couples massages cost the same as two individual massages, though special deals will be offered periodically.  Check the Promotions page for seasonal or special occasion specials.

I've purchased a package deal that covers 60 minute massages, but I would like to extend my massage times.  How would that affect the price?                                                                                                                                                 We can easily accomodate if you wish to extend the times of your prepaid massages.  You may book an extended massage from your prepaid package and pay the difference after your appointment.  The additional charge will vary depending on how long you extend your massage.

How should I prepare for a teeth whitening procedure and what should I do after?                                                         We recommend that you brush your teeth thoroughly before your teeth whitening appointment to ensure the best possible results.  We also recommend a "white diet" for 24 hours after the procedure, which involves eating and drinking foods that are not colored.  A good mindset to keep when choosing foods and drinks after your teeth whitening is, "if it will stain a white shirt, it will stain my teeth."

How should I decide between purchasing a prepaid package and a membership?                                                            A prepaid package is a good, money saving option if you intend to visit Azul infrequently or for a limited time.  By purchasing a prepaid package, you receive a discounted price on the services specified in the transaction and also save time in checkout post-appointment.  If you intend to schedule appointments in one month intervals or larger, a package is an excellent option.

An Azul membership is the better option for people who intend to visit Azul frequently and seek several different service types.  A membership gives you specified discounts on all services and lasts a full year from your purchase date and comes without a contract.  A membership will help you save considerably if you visit us more frequently than once per month or if you wish to save on both massages and skin care services.

Is there a minimum age requirement for receiving massage services at Azul?                                                                  We serve clients of all ages, but  do require consent forms of minors to be signed by their legal guardians.  Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in on these massage sessions to ensure the comfort of our clients and therapists.

What SPF number should I look for in my facial products?                                                                                                     We recommend that you look for products marked 30 SPF and lower.  With our current technology, 30 SPF has the hightest level of effectiveness.  Any product that advertises an SPF above 30 has added chemicals that may not be clinically proven to be effective.  Until more progress is made in this field, it is best to select 30 or lower.

How long should I wait between waxing treatments?                                                                                                               Hair grows at different rates not just between different people, but also in different areas of a person's body.  Eyebrows and other facial hair tend to take an average of 5-6 weeks to grow back before needing another waxing.  Leg and bikini hair usually takes an average of 6-8 weeks to grow back.  If your growth is faster than average, ask your doctor or esthetician if waxings can be done at smaller intervals without irritating the skin.

How much water should I be drinking daily to keep my skin and muscles healthy?                                                          A good rule to follow for average recommended water intake is to take your body weight and divide it in half.  The resulting number is how many of ounces of water you should drink daily to keep your body running smoothly.  Add 12 ounces of water for every hour of exercise.
